But "fall candle" usually means the same three notes: pumpkin, apple, and cinnamon. Nothing wrong with those — but if you've burned pumpkin spice for three years running, this guide introduces something different: a way to scent the season by its actual moments, not just its flavors.
What Are the 24 Solar Terms?
The 24 Solar Terms (二十四节气) are an ancient Chinese calendar system that divides the year into 24 segments, each marking a precise shift in weather, light, and the natural world. Recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, the calendar is over 3,000 years old.
Here's the idea behind our collection: each season has a smell. Not a flavor, not a mood board — a literal, physical moment you can capture in wax. Each candle is named for its term, paired with a story card, and scented to translate that specific day into fragrance.
1. Liqiu · Start of Autumn — the Season's First Softness
Scent: yuzu peel, wild honey, green leaves, cedarwood
Liqiu marks the official beginning of autumn — though the air still holds summer's warmth. The heat hasn't broken yet, but the light has started to slant.
This candle opens bright and clean with yuzu peel, warmed by wild honey, kept alive by green leaves, and anchored by cedarwood. It's the gentlest of the four — the right choice if you want autumn's arrival without any heaviness.
Pick Liqiu if you prefer fresh, light scents and want something that works from late summer straight through early fall.
2. Bailu · White Dew — the Star of Autumn
Scent: lime, osmanthus, Asian pear, sandalwood
Bailu is when the temperature finally drops enough that overnight moisture condenses into visible dew on every blade of grass. In the Jiangnan region of China, it's also when the osmanthus trees bloom — tiny golden flowers that perfume entire streets.
This is our signature candle. A squeeze of lime cuts through the cool air, then osmanthus — honeyed and delicate — takes the room, softened by Asian pear and wrapped in sandalwood. If you've never smelled osmanthus, this is the candle to start with; it's unlike anything in the pumpkin-spice aisle.
Pick Bailu if you want the definitive "it's autumn now" scent — floral, warm, and genuinely original.
3. Qiufen · Autumn Equinox — the Season in Balance
Scent: aged tangerine peel, persimmon, cinnamon, amber
Qiufen is the equinox — the one day of autumn when day and night stand perfectly equal. In the countryside, persimmons hang from bare branches like orange lanterns, and the first cinnamon is peeled for winter stews.
This is the deepest, richest candle of the four. Aged tangerine peel opens earthy and complex, ripe persimmon adds a honeyed, almost wine-like sweetness, cinnamon warms the edges, and amber grounds it all. It smells like a courtyard at dusk — drying fruit and distant woodsmoke.
Pick Qiufen if you love warm, spicy, gourmand-leaning scents and want the fullest expression of autumn.
4. Shuangjiang · Frost Descent — the Edge of Winter
Scent: mint, pine needles, white tea, sandalwood & amber
Shuangjiang is autumn's last stand. The first frost appears on rooftops before sunrise, and the trees are nearly bare. It's the coldest, quietest moment of the season — and the one that makes a lit candle feel most like shelter.
A trace of mint lands cold and sharp, like frost on glass. Pine needles follow, crisp and resinous, the smell of a late-autumn forest floor. White tea steeps quietly beneath, and sandalwood and amber melt into a long, slow finish. The cold is outside; you are inside.
Pick Shuangjiang if you want a candle for the transition into winter — calming, woody, and a little brooding.
