Why Fei

A Brand Named After a Person, Not a Trend

Fei is my wife's name. In Chinese, the character 斐 means "elegant, literary, refined." It's also the first syllable of the word for "brilliant writing" — a small, quiet word that carries a great deal of beauty.

I make these candles in my kitchen on weekends, in a small city in China, while working a full-time job during the week. This is not a side project that grew out of a pitch deck. It grew out of an idea that would not leave me alone: that a season is not just a date on a calendar — it is a smell, a light, a feeling.

"When I was a child, my grandmother would say: the osmanthus blooms when autumn truly arrives. For years I thought it was just a saying. Then one September morning, I opened the window, and there it was — the whole city smelled like golden honey."

Every candle we make is an attempt to capture one of those moments — and to hand it to you, sealed in wax, so that on a cold evening in a city on the other side of the world, you can open a window into an autumn morning you've never seen.

The 24 Solar Terms

An Ancient Calendar, Written in Scents

For over two thousand years, Chinese farmers and poets have marked time not by months, but by twenty-four "solar terms" — moments when the earth shifts: dew forms, frost falls, a flower opens. Each term has its own weather, its own food, its own rituals.

We choose four terms per season and give each one a scent — not a museum piece, but a living impression: the way the air actually smells on that day.

立秋

Liqiu — Start of Autumn

Yuzu, honey, green leaves.
The last warmth of summer, before the turning.

白露

Bailu — White Dew

Osmanthus, pear, sandalwood.
Dew on the grass; the first cool morning.

秋分

Qiufen — Autumn Equinox

Aged tangerine peel, sweet orange, cinnamon.
Equal day and night. The earth finds balance.

霜降

Shuangjiang — First Frost

White tea, chenpi, sandalwood.
First frost. Warm your hands around this flame.

There is no factory behind Fei Candle — and we intend to keep it that way, for as long as we can. Each candle is weighed, melted, blended, poured, and labelled by hand.

100% soy wax — clean-burning, biodegradable, and gentle on small rooms.
IFRA-certified fragrance oils — the same safety standard used by fine fragrance houses.
45+ hour burn time — made to be lit slowly, not rushed.
A story card in every box — the story of the season behind the scent, written by hand.
14 days of rest — every candle cures for two weeks before it ships, so the fragrance is fully developed when it reaches you.
